Hello Neighbors!

I want to thank all of you who made it to our last meeting at the new Library on 53rd street. Considering it was the middle of summer, we had a fairly good turnout.

One piece of new business we are working on is the story of the moving of our polling place. For the last ten or so years it has been the Synagogue of Lexington, but now it seems the site has been moved further east to Second Avenue, making it very inconvenient for a lot of us Westsiders. As soon we get some answers, we will let you know.

We also discussed the new kiosks being installed throughout the city, and how a lot of these sites are inappropriately placed, infringing on the quality of life for businesses and residents. Suzanne Johnson and I plan on researching the problem, and make a proposal to Community Board 5 about the future of these annoyances.

We also went over a lot of familiar territory concerning garbage and bicycles…

Members did give us a few good ideas, however. On their recommendation, I plan on making an outreach to other Block and Neighborhood Associations. We have a lot we can learn from their successes and failures.

I also realize, that because of the limited pool of volunteers, we need to raise funds to be able to hire people who have the skills and experience to help us accomplish our goals. At our next Board meeting, we will be discussing ways to take advantage of our non-profit status and one obvious step is to start a membership fee, which will of course be tax deductIble to members.

I thank you all again, and hope you enjoy the rest of your summer.
